At the Nassau Coliseum Fire Expo Equipment & Truck Show, January 2005, Coram Fire Department commissioners, Van, Butch & Capt. Tom approached me with many ideas for their new rescue truck. They wanted an eagle incorporated with the wording Rescue 1. They also had an idea of painting "real" fire behind the name of the department.
At the show I explained that I would like to do something impressive, something on a large & grand scale. I was already envisioning an eagle sort of like a World War II dive-bomber, coming in for a landing. "They had to see it first". After many months & extensive hours of computer drawings & changes by the department we came to an agreement.
When I came to measure the truck, so that I could do life size drawings, the eagle is actually 8 feet long, from the tip of the wing to the back of the clenched feet. I was then asked to "upgrade" their logo patch on the doors of the truck.
With my helpers Lauren & Sean, we removed anything that was in the way, then masked, sanded, airbrushed, & clear coated. Then re-sanded & polished the entire artwork, just in time so that the truck could be exhibited at the Baltimore MD, Fire Expo 2005.
