Bicycle Painting

I was asked to paint a time trial bicycle. This one had to be different! It had to have a feminine touch! It must look like a woman's bike! Since getting into the sport myself a few years ago, (I do mountain and road biking) I thought, this would be a different subject. Bicyclists in my area don't know me, they don't know that this kind of art could be available. I wanted to do this. Not just for the money, but for the art. For the bicyclists. The owner let me get creative. After a couple of layouts, I was on my own.

The Kestrel frame and fork are made of carbon fiber. It's very light and has nice flowing lines. After sanding and priming, the base coat was added in a lavender to dark purple pearl blend. (A close up can be seen in the "daisy on the upper tube" picture) After studying many flowers, I chose the ones that I thought would fit each section of the frame's unique shape the best. Super-realism and detail are so very important. Final urethane clear coating and hand polishing to a show finish. In the future I will ad pictures of the completed bicycle.

Move your mouse over the frame to see close ups of the individual flowers.
